If you own a kilt but are unsure how to store and protect it between occasions, this carefully put-together kit contains everything you need to get started. HOW DOES THE KILT CARE KIT WORK?

Wool kilts and other natural-fibre garments can be particularly vulnerable to clothes moth larvae. Because kilts are often worn only for special occasions, they may spend long periods stored somewhere dark and undisturbed, the sort of environment clothes moths prefer.

The Kilt Care Kit provides several layers of protection. The cotton garment bag creates a breathable physical barrier, the Cedarwood Products release a fragrance that helps deter moths, and the pheromone Moth Box helps you monitor moth activity in the room.

For the best results, always make sure your kilt and Highlandwear are completely clean and dry before putting them away.

OUR REUSABLE KILT CARE BOX CONTAINS

White Cotton Storage Bag

Perfect for storing your kilt and coordinating Highlandwear, the included White Cotton Garment Storage Bag is made from breathable, washable cotton.

Its 20cm gusset provides room for approximately six to eight garments, while the Velcro fastening closes around the necks of the hangers to help prevent moths from finding their way inside. Our White Cotton Storage Bags are also recommended by House of Edgar for storing and protecting Highlandwear.

Take care not to overfill the bag, as giving your garments a little room will help them hang properly and avoid unnecessary creasing.

Moth Box

The included Moth Box uses a pheromone-treated adhesive strip to attract and trap adult male clothes moths. This provides a simple way to monitor moth activity and identify whether further action may be needed.

Place the box somewhere dark and undisturbed outside the wardrobe, such as under a bed, beneath a chest of drawers or on a quiet shelf. Check it after the first week and continue monitoring it regularly. Once opened, the trap remains effective for up to 12 weeks.

Cedarwood Drawer Sachet

Our Cedarwood Drawer Sachet is infused with a blend of natural essential oils and has a woody, earthy and citrusy fragrance.

Place the sachet with smaller Highlandwear accessories, such as socks or a sporran, or inside the storage bag. Replace it every six months to maintain a strong fragrance.

If you need to cushion folded accessories or protect delicate surfaces, Acid-Free Tissue Paper can also be used to support folds and help reduce creasing.

Two Cedarwood Hanging Blocks

A set of two Cedarwood Hanging Blocks is included to hang inside your Cotton Garment Storage Bag.The natural oils within the cedarwood release an aromatic, forest-fresh fragrance that helps deter clothes moths. Hang the blocks where air can circulate around them and refresh their scent regularly with the Cedar Refresher Spray.

Cedarwood Refresher Spray

The kit also includes a 10ml Natural Cedar Blend Refresher Spray.

Use it to revive the fragrance of your Cedarwood Hanging Blocks every two to three months, or whenever the scent begins to fade. Spray it directly onto the cedarwood and allow it to dry before returning the blocks to the garment bag. Do not spray it directly onto your kilt or clothing.

WHY DO MOTHS NOT LIKE CEDARWOOD?

The natural oils in Cedarwood contain aromatic compounds that help repel insects, including clothes moths.

Cedarwood has traditionally been used in chests and cupboards to protect valuable objects, out-of-season clothing and blankets. Its distinctive fragrance helps make storage areas less inviting to clothes moths while keeping your wardrobe smelling naturally fresh.

The strength of the fragrance matters, which is why the kit includes a Refresher Spray. Regularly refreshing the Cedarwood Blocks helps maintain their aroma and allows them to be used again and again.
